Projects
In addition to plantings throughout the entire growing season,
the Beautification Commission sponsors the Arbor Day Seedlings
Give-Away and the Tree City USA Certification in April.

The beautification commissions of the City of Northville and
Northville Township together sponsor the Arbor Day Seedlings
Give-Away on a Saturday morning in April of each year. The seedlings
are available free to township and city residents, as well as to
residents of the Northville School District. Varieties given away in
the past include: Austrian Pine, White Pine, Blue Spruce, Norway
Spruce, Red Oak, Green Ash, Mountain Maple, Redosier Dogwood, and
Ninebark.
Tree City USA Certification
Tree City USA is a community improvement project sponsored by the
National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National
Association of State Foresters, USDA Forest Service, US Conference
of Mayors, and the National League of Cities.
The program is designed to recognize communities that effectively
manage their public tree resources based on the following four
standards:
- Community Tree Ordinance.
- Tree/Board Commission. Beautification Commission members may
serve on this board along with staff to assist the City Manager in
administering a comprehensive tree management program for the care
of trees on public property.
- Community Forest Program with an annual budget of at least $2
per capita to be used for planting, trimming and removal of trees.
- An Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation.
