Northville Arts Commission
Regular Meeting Minutes / February 6, 2002

Ken Naigus called the meeting of the Northville Arts Commission (NAC) to order at 7:35 at City Hall.

Attendees: Marie Barr, Pat Dorrian-Sandbothe, Ken Naigus, Sonia Swigart, Kathleen Tabaczynski, Sue Taylor, Irme Tracy

Absent: Sharon Rossow, Kathleen O’Brien

The minutes of the previous meeting on January 15th 2002 were approved.

Membership

  • Ken announced new member Kathleen O’Brien.

  • Ken announced Kathleen Tabaczynski’s new role as Cultural Art Specialist.

Student Art Show

  • Student Art Show is tentatively postponed until arrangements for a new facility can be made.

  • Sonia will investigate:

    o square footage requirements

    o the possibility of borrowing art display boards from First Presbyterian church

    o Ward Church as a possible venue

    o Masonic Temple as a possible venue

  • Once square footage requirements are known, Kathleen with check availability of O.L.V. social hall.

  • If a venue is found, team will contact school coordinator to determine their ability to participate.

  • Sue announced that the best time for the student show is the last week in April or first week in May.

Michael Farrell Lectures

  • Kathleen will submit promotional article for Georgia O’Keeffe lecture to Northville Record and Journal newspapers.

  • Kathleen will call Detroit News – Plymouth with info. regarding the remainder of the art lectures.

Winter Concert Series

  • Irme and Sonia will be at the 2/24 concert early to sell tickets and help Ken.
  • Kathleen will have tickets printed and bring to event.

Sculpture Program

  • Team discussed the need to begin planning an unveiling ceremony for the first sculpture.
  • Ken reported that a plaque will be made with the names of those who have donated $500 or more to the sculpture program.

Clock Concerts

  • Ken is currently working on the schedule of concerts.

Brochure

  • Kathleen will update the NAC brochure based on team’s feedback submitted at the meeting.
  • Kathleen will have cost information for production of 1000 brochures prior to the planning meeting on 2/25.
  • Team decided that the brochures should be available for the Northville Business Showcase on March 19th.

Misc.

  • Irme will investigate guidelines and requirements for 50/50 fundraising and be prepared to discuss with team at 2/25 planning meeting.
  • Ken invited the team to participate in a lunch with Dr. William Anderson, the Director of the State Department of History, Arts and Library on 3/27 at Genitti’s.
  • Parks and Recreation Department will share their space at Northville Business Showcase with Arts Commission for display and distribution of new brochures.
  • Kathleen will bring grant requirement information to planning meeting on 2/25.
  • Kathleen will bring information on adjacent community art programs to planning meeting on 2/25.

Upcoming Dates

  • February 24 –Winter Concert, Christa Grix, 3:00pm @ Genitti’s Little Theatre

  • February 25 – Brainstorm/Planning Meeting, 7:00 pm City Hall rm. B – feel free to bring a snack to share!

  • March 13 – next regular meeting

  • March 14 – Art Lecture, Georgia O’Keeffe, 7:30 pm @ Hillside

  • March 19 – Taste of Northville Business Showcase, NHS 5-8 pm, $7

  • March 27–Director of State Department of History, Arts and Library (HAL), Dr. William Anderson, lunch at Genitti’s with state representative John Stewart.

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 pm
