Northville Arts Commission
Regular Meeting Minutes / April 10, 2002
Ken Naigus called the meeting of the Northville Arts Commission (NAC)
to order at 7:35 at City Hall.
Attendees: Marie Barr, Pat Dorrian-Sandbothe, Ken Naigus,
Kathleen O’Brien, Sonia Swigart, Kathleen Tabaczynski, Sue Taylor,
Irme Tracy
Absent: Sharon Rossow
The minutes of the previous meeting on March 13th,
2002 were approved.
Art Classes (new program)
- Irme and Sue presented the schedule for the three art classes
that will be sponsored by NAC this summer.
- This is a collaborative project with Parks and Recreation.
- Five members voted to recommend a split of any profit from the
class with Parks and Recreation, and two members abstained from
voting until more information becomes available.
Michael Farrell Detroit Tours (new program)
Michael Farrell Lecture Series (annual program)
Art Market (annual program)

Team agreed to jury artwork for the art market
at the next scheduled meeting.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday,
May 8th at 7:00pm instead of 7:30pm, in meeting room A.
Sculpture Program
- Ken reported that he is working with Barbara Davies and Tom
Holleman to plan the installation of the sculpture and the
unveiling event, tentatively scheduled for Friday May 31st
(to coincide with the first of the summer Clock Concerts).
Senior Fine Art Show
- Kathleen T. reported that the show is scheduled for May 22nd
–May 29th at the Northville Library.
- An opening reception for students, parents, teachers, sponsors
and city officials is scheduled for May 22nd @ 6:30pm.
- The art will be juried on Tuesday May 14th at a
time (tbd) convenient for the jurors.
- Kathleen O. and Sonia volunteered for organizing the
reception.
- Sue, Kathleen O., Kathleen T., Sonia, Marie and Ken
volunteered to hang the show on May 21st. Kathleen T.
will confirm time at next meeting.
Grants and Fundraising
-
Team decided to apply for a mini-grant through
the City of Detroit Cultural Affairs Dept., (a regranting
institution of MCACA) for the Sculpture Program as well as a
Northville performance by PSO Chamber Orchestra, a collaborative
project with the city of Plymouth, for 2002/2003 fiscal year.
Misc.
- Kathleen T. will ensure that updated copies of NAC Articles of
Organization are sent to all NAC members
- Kathleen T. will work with City officials to ensure that
requirements of residential status for members be consistent in
the Articles of Organization.
Upcoming Dates
April 18th – Budget presentation to City Council, all
are welcome.
April 25th – Gertrude Stein Lecture at Hillside / last
in the 2002 series
May 8th – Next scheduled regular meeting for NAC. To
be used to Jury artists for Art Market, start time is 7:00pm instead
of 7:30 in meeting room C.
