Arts Commission MinutesNorthville Arts Commission Ken Naigus called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm at City Hall. Attendees: Pat Dorrian-Sandbothe, Ken Naigus, Kathleen O’Brien, Sharon Rossow, Sonia Swigart, Sue Taylor Absent: Kathleen Tabaczynski Guest: Ann Brennen Art Market The attendees prepared the invitation flyers for artists. Summer 2003 Bandshell Concerts All have been booked except 3 dates. Kathleen O’Brien will once again coordinate the creation of the flyer with contributions from local merchants. Student Art Show Sue handed out a volunteer sheet and asked all to sign up for available times. Kathleen O’Brien agreed to coordinate the food at the reception. Winter Concerts The series has concluded. Attendence for the 3 shows at Genitti’s was down from last year and financially, we did not break even. As this program has hit the 3-year mark, we will review it at the next meeting to determine whether to continue next year, including the PSO show. Sculpture Program Planning for the donation to the Library is proceeding Music Festival Sue and Kathleen have begun discussions with Traci Sincock regarding a potential fundraiser featuring outdoor music at Ford Field. Business Showcase The commission decided to participate in this event on March 18. Sue Taylor and Ann Brennen will be at the NAC table. Sonia and Sue will create some form of signage or board on the theme "there’s always space for art" and incorporate information on our events and programs. Sidewalk Sale The commission decided that we would participate as follows: 1) Friday we sponsor a concert at the bandshell (Farmington Jazz Band); 2) Saturday only we will have a table and feature various arts and crafts for children. Kathleen O’Brien will coordinate. It was noted that Toni Genitti most likely raised the possibility of our involvement as a suggestion for us to generate revenue, rather than a request. We will not offer a babysitting service. If requested, we will not pay a fee for participation, as we are a non-profit city agency. Sharon suggested a potential program involving artist-created chairs. She will pursue this as a potential additional NAC activity, but not as part of the Sidewalk Sale. Fundraising Kathleen T. has developed a draft proposal. There was discussion about rolling it out at the Business Showcase. However, this proposal should be reviewed by the NAC first. If this cannot be done before March 18, then it will not be rolled out at the Showcase. Communications Sue suggested that working through the newspaper advertising executive may be a more effective way than working with the editor. Next Meeting April 9th – City Hall, 7:30pm Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm |
