Arts Commission Minutes

Ken Naigus called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm at City Hall.

Attendees: Pat Dorrian-Sandbothe, Ken Naigus, Kathleen O’Brien, Sharon Rossow, Sonia Swigart, Kathleen Tabaczynski, Sue Taylor

Guests: Ann Brenner, Mary Lou Greene, Sue Vitali

Absent: None

Jurying for art market will take place during the May meeting.

Summer Concert Series

Group decided that Kathleen O. would not ask local businesses for donations since we are doing the membership program.

Two performers for the Summer Concert Series were in the touring guide, however deadline for grant has passed.

Ken will contact Bo Hall for her input on next year’s art lecture series.

Jurors are Sue Vitali, Ann Brenner and Sandi Banks

Kathleen will follow up with Candice Cunningham from Detroit News to make sure she sends a photographer and reporter.

Grand opening of the Marquis Theatre is immediately following the Student Art Show reception on Friday evening.

Team discussed these possibilities for improving the 2004 Winter Concert Series:

-do not schedule on concert on Super Bowl Sunday.

-ask artists for their mailing list and extend advertising to that group

-investigate the use of postcards to send out the week before each concert

-collaborate with Genitti’s to offer a wine and cheese hour before the show.

-hire a Brass Quintet/show tunes group or some other classical feature instead of the PSO Chamber Orchestra.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm
