Northville Arts Commission
Special Meeting Minutes / May 14, 2003

Ken Naigus called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at City Hall.

Attendees: Ken Naigus, Kathleen O’Brien, Sharon Rossow, Sonia Swigart, Kathleen Tabaczynski, Sue Taylor

Guests: Ann Brenner, Laurie Fowler

Absent: Pat Dorrian-Sandbothe

Misc. Business

Kathleen asked that everyone mark their calendars for the dates of the Comerica Park/Civic Concern. The dates are October 27th and December 7th. NAC will need 10 representatives to work the event. No commitment has been made to participate yet.

Kathleen told the team about a community artist that contacted NAC regarding a possible public art project. Ken will follow-up with the artist.

Kathleen will investigate doing a lighthouse lecture program through Parks and Rec. or in partnership with another community organization.

Team discussed doing a 50/50 raffle at the summer concerts and decided against it since we will be selling t-shirts and rolling-out the membership program.

Kathleen will buy a table to display and hand out various NAC materials at the Friday night concerts.

Kathleen will develop a schedule of help for the Friday night concert series.

Sonia will be Ken’s back up for the Friday night series. She and Ken will work out their coverage schedule.

Art Market

The group decided on a number of accepted artists for the show.

Some ideas for next year’s art market were discussed briefly-

-enforce the rule that the artist has to be present

-double booths can be denied in order to keep the balance and variety in the show

-take advantage of a ‘Jury Practice’ workshop offered by the Artist Guild in April.

-require better slides

-increase price of show and/or charge a jury fee

-use multiple slide projectors during the jurying process so that the artists’ entire body of work can be viewed at once.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:25pm
