Beautification Commission Minutes

CITY OF NORTHVILLE
BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
Tuesday – August 14, 2001

The meeting was called to order by Co-Chair Lestock at 7:10 PM in city hall conference room B.

Members present: DeMattos, Eden, Hansknecht, Lenk, Lestock, Price, Stapleton, Tague

Members absent: Cusmano, Rewald

Lestock read a nice note from Lori Ward, Director DDA and the answer required from the note to Rick Monroe (?).

Plantings:

*Lestock along with Tom Holleman and John from the DPW finished planting the front of city hall with Dark Green American Arborvitae (Thuja occid. ‘Nigra’), Yews (Taxus ‘Densiformis’) and Halcyon hostas. Members agreed that it looks good.

*Weather has blistering, so ‘Happy Returns’ daylilies have not been planted. Lestock asked for volunteers to help Wednesday, August 15^th. Eden, Hansknecht, Lenk and Lestock will be there to plant.

*Pansy pots were discussed. It was felt that it would be easier to stuff plant the clock with pansies rather than moving the 20 or so containers back and forth from the yard in March.

Meetings:

*BCSEM will be on Thursday, September 20, 2001 in Flat Rock. If you are interested in attending, Lenk is taking care of reservations.

*City and Township awards will be distributed at the Rotary luncheon, the last Tuesday, September 25 at the First Presbyterian Church.

*The NBC was asked to host the BCSEM on Thursday, June 20, 2002. Eden, Lenk and Lestock checked with St. John’s Golf & Conference Center and will be going to Genitti’s and Meadowbrook Country Club. Nancy Lindley, Great Lakes Roses was invited and has agreed to speak. Lestock will send a letter to Jennifer Granholm inviting her to also speak. The members should be on the lookout for favors and donations which will be discussed further next month.

Awards:

*Members brought in their selections for ‘city awards’ and also their selection for ‘residential awards’. These awards are based upon what we consider ‘curb appeal’. Neat, tidy, well maintained, nice landscaping, flowers, etc.

*This years (10) awards will go to: Carmine’s Interior Design, Center Street Design, Community Federal Credit Union, Scott Lowery CPA, Northville Chamber of Commerce, Northville City Hall, Northville District Library, Stempien & Stempien,

Vision Computer Solutions and Water Wheel Office Complex.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 PM at city hall. Meeting adjourned at 8:40.
