Members Present: Lestock, Lenk, DeMattos, Hansknecht,Price, Rewald, Stapleton, Tague Members absent: Cusmano, Eden Budget: The commission reviewed the 2001 and 2002 proposed Budget. Questions were about: ‘Equipment Rental’ and ‘Fringe Benefits’. Lestock will get answers and report back to commission next month. $10,000 is needed from our budget to fund the new 8 Mile/Center Street sign. Spring Plantings: Daffodil bulbs planted in the clock last fall are blooming. Tulips planted by DDA ‘gardener’are also immerging in the downtown sidewalk area beds. Summer Plantings: Lestock advised that junior, Erin Schubert (349-7788) from the ‘Make A Difference’group at the high school with grant money will be planting the new Randolph Street island. Lestock will touch base with her to see if she has any questions. They will be planting both ends. Lestock will bring photos from previous plantings in the downtown containers, clock and ‘witch’wall. Plant material decisions will be discussed next month. The containers will be planted on Thursday, May 23 at the DPW yard. Resolution: The Resolution distributed for review in November was tabled. Seedling Giveaway: Lestock thanked DeMattos and Lenk for the work involved with getting the flyer typed and distributed. The annual seedling giveaway is on Saturday, April 27 at 9:30 till 12:00 at Township Hall. Lestock asked that members attend and arrive early (9:00) to help set up. City Hall Fountain: Members asked when the fountain, which was removed and stored for the winter months, will be installed. Lestock will check with city officials and advise. The commission was curious about what the cost would be to have the fountain water flow over the sides, Jim Gallogly advised the charge to be an additional $2,000. Since the fountain is now sometimes being mistaken as a drinking fountain this would be a way in which to prevent this from happening. BCSEM: Lestock advised that Jennifer Granholm sent a letter and because of a previous commitment declined our invitation to speak at the June meeting. Lenk, DeMattos and Price will shop for favor supplies. Lenk, DeMattos and Lestock will meet at the first Farmer’s Market to talk with Nancy Lindley about table centerpieces. Next month we will extensively cover this luncheon. Calendar: The 2002 commission calendar will be distributed with the May minutes. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at city hall in conference Room B at 7:00 PM. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM.
