Beautification Commission Minutes

CITY OF NORTHVILLE
BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
Tuesday – May 13, 2003

Members present: Cusmano, Lenk, Lestock, Rewald

Members absent: DeMattos, Hansknecht, Stapleton, Tague

Meeting was called to order at 7:35.

SEEDING GIVEAWAY: Was another success. Seedlings were gone by 11:00. Lestock thanked Lenk, Stapleton, Rewald and Tague for participating.

WITCH WALL CLEAN OUT: Lestock thanked Lenk for helping to remove the aging plant material. A different plant scheme is being planned.

PLANTINGS: Lestock will contact Jan Purtell in regard to the Hillside students planting the Senior Center, Cady Cemetery and Community Center. See will also ask Purtell to see if the high school ‘Make A Difference Group’ will be planting the N. Randolph Street island.

Lestock will also talk with Gallogly to see if Marty Walters and her garden glove group are again interested in planting the beds on S. Main Street.

Lestock and Lenk will shop for plants for designated areas. To see was is available and purchase what they feel will fit the mark.

INQUIRY: Lestock was contacted by Vicky Serwick (248) 374-0653 who lives at the top of Northville behind Hillside Middle School and the P&R offices. To soften the hardscape, she wondered if the back of the buildings could be planted by the city with either Boston Ivy or Virginia Creeper. Gallogly advised Lestock that Ms. Serwick should contact the Board of Education with her request.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at city hall at 7:00 PM. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.
