Beautification Commission Minutes

BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
October 14, 2003

Members present: Hansknecht, Hayes, Lenk, Lestock

Members absent: Cusmano, DeMattos, Rewald, Tague

The meeting was called to order at 7:15 PM.

The awards luncheon went very well. We have had cards and calls from resident’s thanking us for their ‘Appreciation Certificates’. Janet Bickner, resident at 465 Welch called and asked about the criteria for getting an award. Lestock called and gave her the information. Lenk had a call from a resident who wanted to know who in her area had received awards. Lestock also had a call from a thrilled resident. After discussion, perhaps we should be giving more awards out in heavily ‘populated/housed’ areas. As opposed to giving only 15 in each area.

Lestock has not had time to work on the America in Bloom program but did make a trip to a Bay City in Bloom meeting in mid September. She also called Michele Pierson in Belleville to discuss the program as they also received an honorable mention in 2002.

Lenk and Lestock planted 14 mums in the clock. They also planted 25 mums, deadheaded the hostas, daylilies and weeded the front of city hall. They also continued to deadhead the planters till a frost hit and wilted the perilla and potato vine.

Lestock will contact Ann (248) 348-7329 who is interested in the geraniums in the planters. But not sure when the DPW will be taking them back to the yard.

Lestock will write a letter thanking Marty Walters PEO group for planting and maintaining the bed on South Main.

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM. The next meeting will be April, 2004. Have a nice winter and think SPRING.
