PLANTERS:

*The planters at Allen Terrace will be planted (weather permitting) next Tuesday, May 18 at 7:00 PM.

*The planters will be planted on Thursday, May 27 at 9:30 at the DPW yard. Plant material will be pretty much as last year. Geraniums (violet), Magilla perilla, potato vine, icicle plant, purple and white petunias.

DDA:

Lestock and Lenk met with Lori Ward and Elaine Kozar (bulb lady) for coffee to discuss the downtown area.

*DDA spent $27,000 on bulbs and flowers for the downtown area last year.

*The paper boxes are being moved to an area hear Mags. Advertisers must register, pay a fee and keep their box filled.

*Looking into perhaps writing a ‘Public Space Ordinance’ for the band shell, so organizations will not ‘overlap’ their use of.

*(5) Ferns will again be purchased to hang in the band shell. Lestock will check with Donahee Farms and get back to Kozar.

*Ward asked NBC to plant pansy planters at Center and Main Streets. Lenk and

Lestock planted 8 with pansy’s and tulips.

*A park area maybe located where the drive between the Kitchen Witch and the band shell area.

*Nice mulch in the ‘high profile’ areas of the city. Kozar likes double-cut pine bark.

*Ward will be ordering planters and a few extra liners for Mary Alexander court for next year.

*Lenk, Lestock and Kozar will attend the DDA meeting on May 18 in the Council Chambers at 8:00 AM.

MEETINGS:

Lestock will be attending the 40th anniversary of Keep Michigan Beautiful at the St. Clair Inn on Sunday, May 16.

Lenk and Lestock will stop by Pool’s at 5:00 PM tomorrow to meet Jody the new Chamber Director.

PLANTINGS:

Lestock talked with Jan Purtell, Northville Public Schools – Education Partnership Facilitator in regard to the Hillside students planting the Cemetery and also the Senior Center. She was not sure but will get back to me when she hears from the ‘team’ coordinator. Purtell will contact the high school ‘Make A Difference’ group to see if they are interested in helping.

Lestock talked to Nancy G. from the Parks & Recs. Her plantings are on hold as the Community Center is still under construction. She is looking to plant sometime end of May or early June.

ADOPTING A POCKET GARDEN:

Gallogly asked Lestock to contact Steve Kirk (248) 349-4030 in doing plantings on the Beal Street ‘bridge’. She did talk to him and he will have a member of their association give me a call. Lestock did drive by to look at the area which is surprising quite large. Space could definitely use small trees as well as shrubs before flowers go in.

JUDGING:

Lestock asked that we all keep our eyes open in regard to the businesses for judging in July. Lestock will send a copy of the past business ‘winners’.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 PM. The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 8. Would appreciate a call if you are unable to attend.
