NORTHVILLE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
Tuesday, September 14, 2004

Members present: Cusmano, Hansknecht, Lestock, Rewald, Tague

Members absent: Hayes

AWARDS:

As Lestock will be unable to act as city emcee at the Rotary awards luncheon and asked that Tague do the honors. Lestock gave her information and asked her to touch base with Carol Kasprowicz at 449-9905. Tague said that Hayes, if attending, would surely help her. Although Hansknecht works, she may also attend.

After discussion, the Northville Community Senior Center will get the Special Award this year.

Lestock did bring the picture awards for Tague to take home. She will leave them with Carol until the 28th and have Gallogly take them to the luncheon meeting.

The Commission discussed the residence awards. Hansknecht wanted to select more than the 22 from her area. Perhaps we could come up with a different method of notifying the recipients without raising the cost. As a cost cutting measure this year, the certificate being sent will have no folder with it.

PLANTERS:

Planters still are looking good. Watering is being done on a regular basis by the DPW. Deadheading is continuing, with large amounts now being sheared as the potato vine and magilla are taking over and will block out the sun if not done weekly.

FUTURE PLANTINGS:

Lestock ran into Lori Ward, DDA Director at city hall and discussion ensued in regard to improvements badly needed on Mary Alexander Court. Elaine Kozar (tulip lady) has come up with a plan to ‘clean up’ the small median area in front of the businesses there. Also looking at add planters to this area next season.

Also discussed was the possibility of the DDA hiring a person (gardener) to do maintenance (preparation, weeding, watering, etc.) to all of the planted areas throughout the city.

RECRUITING;

We are still looking for ways in which to entice new members into the commission. We are now down to six. Suggestions were newspaper article, DPW newsletter, P&R brochure, word of mouth, Chamber of Commerce, Mothers Club Directory, Farmers Market. Will actively pursue next season!

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 12 at 7:00 PM at city hall.
