Beautification Commission MinutesNORTHVILLE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
Members present: Cusmano, Hansknecht, Hayes, Lestock, Rewald, Tague The meeting was called to order by Lestock at 7:10 PM. ARBOR DAY ACTIVITIES: Lestock advised that a Crimson King maple tree will be planted on S. Main for Arbor Day by the City. The seedling giveaway will again be jointly hosted on Saturday, April 30 at 9:30 at the new Township hall in the patio area. Conifers and shrubs will be offered. No deciduous were available this year. Lestock typed the flyers, got approval from the Board of Education and delivered the bundles to the elementary schools, municipalities and the Parks & Rec local for residents. KEEP MICHIGAN BEAUTIFUL AWARDS: Lestock advised that she sent in the documentation for the 2004 KMB Annual Awards for the new Senior Center and the Baseline Sculpture at the corner of Center & 8 Mile. SPRING PLANTERS: Lestock advised that she had picked up pansies and tulips. Hayes will help her to plant the 16 downtown planters on Wednesday. CLOCK: Tulips are slowly coming up. PLANTERS: Lestock will contact Lori Ward to see if more planters, as discussed last year, had been ordered for the downtown area. WITCH WALL: Hansknecht, Lestock and Tague will meet Saturday at 10:00 AM to divide the iris and daylilies. Plants will be moved to other areas of the city. (ie, Rural Hill, Art House, Center & 8 Mile sign area tree beds) AWARDS: Still looking at how we will present this years awards. Options are the photo or the plaque. BUDGET MEETING: Lestock attended the Council Budget 2006 Budged Meeting. Proposed for this year is $9,010. Of which the DDA is contributing $1,500. Last year’s proposed was $8,940. 50 PLANTERS: Lestock ordered from Sparr’s Nursery on Lilley Road (50) Magilla Perilla and (50) Icicles. Planted will take place on Thursday, May 26 at 9:30 at the DPW Yard. MEMBERSHIP: Discussion ensured in regard to the commission membership. We desperately need members. Lestock advised Kasprowicz will put the info in the ‘City News’ which goes out over internet to those who have signed on to receive it. Also she will put it in the ‘DPW Newsletter’. Lestock will talk with the local news organizations, Record and Journal. Lestock was in contact last Fall with Gloria Mrozek, Comerica Bank who perhaps is interested in joining.
