Beautification Commission MinutesNORTHVILLE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION Members present: Hansknecht, Lestock, Rewald, Tague Members absent: Cusmano, Hayes The meeting was called to order by Lestock at 7:10 PM. ARBOR DAY SEEDLING GIVEAWAY: Lestock thanked those members (Hansknecht & Rewald ) for helping to distribute the seedlings. Hansknecht voiced the opinion that deciduous trees should again be included next year. They were excluded because of there cost. Five seedlings per KEEP MICHIGAN BEAUTIFUL: Lestock was informed by Traci Sincock – Parks & Rec that the Senior Center is receiving an award but cannot attend the luncheon. Lestock contacted Naigus, Arts Commission, who also is receiving an award but cannot attend. Lestock will contact KMB and make arrangements to pick up the awards. SPRING PLANTERS: Hayes and Lestock planted 16 planters with pansies and tulips at the DPW Yard. These planters were moved in the downtown area. CLOCK: Tulips have come up but not doing very well. This raised bed of (300) Fosteriana mixed tulips SHOULD have been mulched to protect them from winter weather. WITCH WALL: Lestock apologized to Hansknecht and Tague because of personal reasons the cancellation of the dividing of the plant material. She advised that Jeff Nash, high school junior, needs civic service work for government class will work with her to get this job done in the next couple of weeks. PLANTERS: Per Lori Ward, no extra planters were ordered this winter. Lestock stopped by Sparr’s Nursery to check on the status of the plant material they have been growing for the planters this year. Lestock is happy that Sparr’s are so willing to help us with the planters as well as other beds the commission plants. MEMBERSHIP: Lestock talked with the Record, the Journal but has heard from no one in regard to joining the commission. She also did leave a message for Gloria Mrozek at Comerica Bank but did not hear from her before the meeting. SPRING CLEAN UP: Lestock cleaned up the ‘sign bed’ at the corner of Center & 8 Mile (2 hours). She also cleaned up the ‘water control box bed’ on S. Main (3 hours in the sleet, snow, rain and sunshine). POST OFFICE: On a recent trip to the post office, Lestock talked with Jeffrey Price, Supervisor in regard to the unsightly landscape in the front of the building. (She was advised the post master with not there.) She also spoke with the management last summer. She walked by the area before the meeting and nothing had been done! AWARDS JUDGING: This summer, judging for the businesses will be done in July and for the residences will be in August. PLANTINGS: Scheduling for Allen Terrance, clock and the witch wall was discussed. Lestock will type the calendar and forward to the members. Lestock will contact Sue Campbell, P&R in regard to the interest her group (?) has planting the Randolph Street bed. Jim Gallogly gave Lestock the name of a high school student from the Make A Difference Group who is also has as interest in planting. CHAIR: Lestock agreed to continue ‘Chairing’ for her ninth year. No others were interested. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 at city hall. Linda Lestock Cc: Gary Word
