NORTHVILLE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION
Tuesday – October 11, 2005

Commissioners present: Hansknecht, Hayes, Lestock, Tague

Commissioners absent: Cusmano, Rewald

Guest: Tracy Curtis

The meeting was called to order at 7:10.

Lestock thanked Curtis and Hayes for helping her clean out the plantings in the clock on Wednesday, September 21. Lestock purchased 14 mums at the Farmers Market and planted them on that Thursday just as it started to rain.

The planters were again discussed. Hansknecht advised that when she deadheaded late this summer that the planters were really overgrown. She also advised that they seemed to be dry. Hayes mentioned that it had been a hotter summer than we have had in a few years. Lestock will check with Lori Ward to see if extra planters will be added next year. Lestock brought a photo of a planter with plant possibilities for next year.

The bulbs Lestock ordered for the clock have arrived. After the mums are removed they will be planted.

The beds and (non-stop) weeds around town were also discussed. The lack of ‘garden’ maintenance throughout the city was also discussed at length.

Lestock advised that she along with Northville Garden Club President, Julie Mantay met with Arts Commission Chair, Ken Naigus in regard to a ‘gratis’ sculpture to possibly be erected in park behind city hall. Naigus was interested in our opinion of the piece and also what plantings we thought would be appropriate. Hansknecht had some concerns in regard to children if the piece is located in this area.

The Rotary luncheon will be next Tuesday, October 18 at the First Presbyterian Church. Curtis, Hayes, Lestock and Tague will attend. Lestock and Curtis will shop for centerpieces and napkins on Friday afternoon.

Lestock will get with Carol Kasprowicz in regard to mailing out the residential awards.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15. The next meeting will be in November. Lestock will contact members to advise the date as November 8 is Election Day.
