Election Commission MinutesCity of Northville A meeting of the Election Commission of the City of Northville, Michigan, was held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the City of Northville Municipal Building, Council Chambers, 215 West Main Street, Northville, Michigan, at 8:06 a.m. at which time and place the following Commission members were present: Present: Absent: None Also Present: Citizen Comments None School Precinct Boundary Changes As part of the election consolidation legislation, school elections are now held on one of four fixed annual election dates. The Northville Public School and Schoolcraft Community College districts chose the annual May date for school elections. Under the legislation, the annual May election date is not exclusive to the schools and the date may be used for other elections. The election consolidation legislation is specific in the fact that voters cannot be required to go to a different polling location for each "election" should the school district election and a local/state/county election, including special elections, fall on the same date. As such, the plan of action formulated by the Election Coordinating Committee for the administration of school elections calls for school precinct boundaries to be realigned to match those used by the municipality. This change must be approved by the Election Commission. The current school precinct boundaries and polling locations in the City (Pct. 1 City Hall, Pct. 2 Silver Springs, Pct. 4 Amerman School, and Pct. 6 Moraine School) would be changed to match the City’s voting precincts and polling locations of Pct. 1 Wayne County at City Hall and Pct. 2 Oakland County at Amerman School. Motion Marzano, seconded by Johnson to adopt the "Resolution on School Election Precincts" to change the school precinct boundaries and polling locations to match the current voting precincts and polling locations used by the City of Northville. Motion carried unanimously. New Business / Discussion The City Attorney commented on the role of the Election Commission in the election process, recommending that the Commission meet prior to each election for ballot approval, approval of the election inspector assignments, and other duties that may be required by statute. There being no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 8:14 a.m. Respectfully submitted,
Dianne Massa
