Election Commission MinutesCity of Northville A meeting of the Election Commission of the City of Northville, Michigan, was held on October 12, 2005 at the City of Northville Municipal Building, Council Chambers, 215 West Main Street, Northville, Michigan, at 8:00 a.m. at which time and place the following Commission members were present: Present: Absent: None Also Present: None Citizen Comments None Approval of the Minutes Motion Marzano, seconded by Swigart to approve the July 6, 2005 Election Commission meeting minutes as presented. Motion carried unanimously. New Business A. Receive Certification of Candidates for the November 8, 2005 Election On October 7, 2005 the City Clerk certified the names of candidates that filed valid and sufficient nominating petitions for placement on the November 8, 2005 Election ballot as follows:
It was noted that no petitions were rejected. Motion Marzano, seconded by Swigart to receive and file the October 7, 2005 certification of nominees for the November 8, 2005 election. Motion carried unanimously. B. November 8, 2005 Ballot Layout The proposed ballot layout was reviewed by the Commission and the following was noted: The ballot proofs were reviewed by the Michigan Bureau of Elections and are in compliance with state election law and Bureau guidelines. Motion Marzano, seconded by Swigart to approve the ballot layout for the November 8, 2005 election. Motion carried unanimously. C. Approval of Board of Election Inspectors for the November 8, 2005 Election The Commission reviewed the proposed Board of Election Inspectors. Applications are on file for each inspector. Motion Marzano, seconded by Swigart to approve the Election Board assignments for the November 8, 2005 Election as follows:
Motion carried unanimously. D. Authorize the City Clerk to Perform Certain Election Commission Responsibilities State law requires the Election Commission to perform certain duties related to the election. In the past, the City Clerk has assumed the responsibilities on behalf of the Election Commission which include providing and preparing certain precinct supplies and forms, determining the number of voting stations needed at each precinct, preparing test charts (predetermined results) and test decks, and conducting preliminary and public accuracy testing (includes testing and sealing equipment). Motion Marzano, seconded by Swigart to authorize the City Clerk to continue to perform the above-mentioned responsibilities on behalf of the Election Commission, and forward a status report to the Commission prior to the election.
