Historic Commission MinutesNORTHVILLE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Swigart called the Historic District Commission meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. 2. ROLL CALL: Present: Cryderman, Culp, Holleman, Sliger, and Swigart. Absent: Coponen (excused). 3. MINUTES: July 15, 2001 minutes were not available. 4. AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None. 5. REPORTS: A. CITY ADMINISTRATION: None. B. CITY COUNCIL: None. PLANNING COMMISSION: None. OTHER COMMUNITY /GOVERNMENT LAISONS: None. 6. CASES CASE #1 Paul Gessler New Roof 234 N. Rogers Northville, Michigan 48167 No one was present to represent the application, however a color palate was left for the Commissioner’s review. The shingle is by Prestique / Elk Premium Roofing. The color is Forest Green. Renaissance Roofing is the contractor. Motion by Holleman, supported by Culp to accept the application as submitted. Voice Vote. Motion Unanimously Carried.
CASE #2 Eric Brown New Windows 543 West Dunlap Exterior Paint Northville, Michigan 48167 Eric Brown described the exterior paint colors for his home at 543 W. Dunlap St. New white vinyl windows, double hung, to match the existing, will be installed. Three original stained and two leaded glass windows will remain in the home, as well as, both the front and back door. The new window sashes will be painted either, brown or tan. All new windows will be the same size as of the existing windows. All paints for the home are Benjamin Moore – Color Pallette /MOM3. These include: Major Trim -1058 – Light Gold First Floor Body – 454 Olive Green Second Floor Body – 452 – Light Olive Green Window Sashes & Storms –1064 Window Frames – 1058 – Light Gold Top Porch Railings – HC 51 - Burnt Orange Porch Ceiling – 820 Porch Balusters –1058 – Light Gold Porch Floor and Step Treads – Adobe Clay Step Risers – 1058 – Light Gold Doors / Storm Doors – HC 51 - Burnt Orange Wrought Iron Railings and Balusters – Black All Gutters – 1058 – Light Gold Fish Scale Shingles on the gable will be painted in horizontal stripes from the bottom row to the top. The courses will be painted in pairs to create a fade or gradient of color from dark on the bottom to lightest on the top. Color of Fish Scale Shingles range from Benjamin Moore 1058 – 1064 or light gold to a Nutmeg Brown. Distinctive Design Color Consulting out of Somers, New York provided the custom color scheme for the home. Color renderings of the home were submitted. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Vinyl windows can be painted but, it is very difficult and the correct paint must be used. There are many paint colors being used so, please: Use With Caution. Motion by Holleman, supported by Cryderman to accept the application as submitted. Voice Vote. Motion Unanimously Carried.
CASE #3 Jim Notarianni New Roof 31 West Dunlap Street Northville, Michigan 48167 The applicant was not able to attend the meeting. The roofer explained that the plans include tearing off and re roofing the house. Repairs will be made to the roof substructure as required. The roof is by Timberline/Gaf. Because the owner could not be present, he asked that the black roof (the safest color) be approved, although it was really not his number one choice. Other colors were discussed. Motion by Holleman, supported by Culp, to approve the application as submitted. The #1 choice being Slate Blend, #2 – Weathered Wood and #3 – Black. Voice Vote: Motion Unanimously Carried. CASE #4 Jeff Weaver Paint 359 N. Rogers Northville, Michigan 48167 Mr. Weaver described plans to paint the exterior of his home and provided a color photo. The Main body SW 2816 – Rockwood Dark Green. Major trim SW 2842 –Roycroft Suede. Eyebrows SW 2838-Polished Mahogany. Front Door-Polished Mahogany. All paints are SW –Flat paint (guaranteed for Life.) COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Dark colors will make the home appear smaller. The colors from the Preservation Palette are historically correct. Motion by Culp, supported by Cryderman, to approve the application as submitted. Voice Vote. Motion Unanimously Carried..
CASE #5 Stairs Michigan Gift Mart 133 W. Main St. Northville, Michigan 48167 A letter was presented signed by Sue Scott, Mart Manager, which asked permission to replace the front steps and remove the planter box from the front of the Michigan Gift Mart. Because the Commissioners needed more information, they decided to refer it back to the applicant pending more information. Since Michigan Gift Mart is one of the largest buildings in the Downtown, they wanted to see detailed plans. Motion by Culp, supported by Holleman to refer the application back to the applicant pending more detailed information. Voice Vote.
