6. CASES

CASE #1 Repair Entryway

Mill Stream Apartments
430/450 E Main St

Michael Shaw, Applicant

Stephan M Hoffman, Architect

MOTION by Holleman, supported by Cryderman, to refer the application back to the applicant for clarification/details on: newel posts, balusters, handrail, color sample, and compliance with code for commercial stairway clearances and heights. Voice vote: Motion carried unanimously.

CASE #2 New Home

Dickinson Group/J S Architectural
577 Randolph

John Lacroix, Architect

Concerns were expressed about the prefabricated chimney. Several commissioners prefer the use of brick or stone. As presently designed, the chimney is cantilevered and sided. A foundation for a chimney would encroach in the setback.

MOTION by Cryderman, supported by Holleman, to refer the application back to the applicant with a request for annotations on the drawings, including:

garage doors specified

chimney issue resolution

shingle roofing sample

paint colors specified

gutter and downspout details (per code)

spindles/handrails if required by code

porch railings

Voice vote: Motion carried unanimously.

7. DISCUSSION

Guidelines and ordinance revisions were distributed. Chair Swigart asked the commissioners to note questions and concerns and submit them to the Building Department by March 3. A final draft should be available at the next meeting.

Carol Kasprowicz is preparing invitations for the upcoming workshop.

Cryderman agreed to draft a letter from the Historic District Commission to the State of Michigan in support of a new barn at Maybury State Park. It was noted that the Michigan Barn Preservation Network could be involved in the moving of an old barn to the park site.

8. ADJOURNMENT

MOTION by Cryderman, supported by Gudritz, to adjourn the meeting at 7:45 P.M.

Voice vote: Motion carried unanimously.

Respectfully submitted,

Wendy W Gutowski
