Historic Commission MinutesNORTHVILLE HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION 1. CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Tom Swigart called the Historic District Commission meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.
2. ROLL CALL Present: Cryderman, Gudritz, Holleman, Swigart, Bayly (7:05 pm) Excused: Culp, Worley Also Present: Chief Building Official, Rick Starling
3. MINUTES MOTION by Holleman, supported by Cryderman, to approve the January 15, 2003 minutes as submitted. Voice vote: Motion carried unanimously.
4. AUDIENCE COMMENTS None.
5. REPORTS City Administration: None. City Council: None. Historic District Commission: None. Other Community / Governmental Liaisons: None.
6. CASES CASE #1 Repair Entryway Mill Stream Apartments Michael Shaw, Applicant Stephan M Hoffman, Architect MOTION by Holleman, supported by Cryderman, to refer the application back to the applicant for clarification/details on: newel posts, balusters, handrail, color sample, and compliance with code for commercial stairway clearances and heights. Voice vote: Motion carried unanimously.
CASE #2 New Home Dickinson Group/J S Architectural John Lacroix, Architect Concerns were expressed about the prefabricated chimney. Several commissioners prefer the use of brick or stone. As presently designed, the chimney is cantilevered and sided. A foundation for a chimney would encroach in the setback. MOTION by Cryderman, supported by Holleman, to refer the application back to the applicant with a request for annotations on the drawings, including: garage doors specified chimney issue resolution shingle roofing sample paint colors specified gutter and downspout details (per code) spindles/handrails if required by code porch railings Voice vote: Motion carried unanimously.
7. DISCUSSION Guidelines and ordinance revisions were distributed. Chair Swigart asked the commissioners to note questions and concerns and submit them to the Building Department by March 3. A final draft should be available at the next meeting. Carol Kasprowicz is preparing invitations for the upcoming workshop. Cryderman agreed to draft a letter from the Historic District Commission to the State of Michigan in support of a new barn at Maybury State Park. It was noted that the Michigan Barn Preservation Network could be involved in the moving of an old barn to the park site.
