Electronic Poll Book
(E-Poll Book)
The City of Northville, like several other municipalities across the
State of Michigan, will use the new Electronic Poll Book (E-Poll Book)
at the November 8, 2011 General Election.
Through grant monies
provided by the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), the City has taken
advantage of an opportunity to participate in a grant program to procure
a laptop computer, card scanner, and related accessories for each
precinct. E-Poll Book works in conjunction with the State’s Qualified
Voter File.
The E-Poll Book will replace the hand-written poll
book and poll lists and provide a more accurate method of identifying
voters. Voters will be asked to swipe their Michigan Driver’s License
through the card reader, which will bring that voter’s information on
the computer screen. From there, a ballot may be issued and the voter’s
name will be automatically added to a computer poll list.
Each
computer will have a list of registered voters for that precinct and
will also include a list of all other City-registered voters. If someone
is at the wrong precinct, they can quickly be directed to the correct
precinct without having to call the City Clerk’s Office.
The
City of Northville’s Election Inspectors are pleased to be using this
new technology. While all Election Inspectors have been trained, this is
a new process and it may take a few elections for the Election
Inspectors to become proficient. Precinct Inspectors will appreciate
your patience and understanding on Election Day.
The City’s Election results for the
November 8th election will be posted on this website.
