Passports
Complete applications (including required documentation) are
accepted Monday through Friday, 8:00am until 11:30am at Northville
City Hall, 215 West Main Street in downtown Northville 248-349-1300.
Please note that Passport Applications will not be accepted after
the hours listed above.
Passport Acceptance
Facility
The City of Northville is a passport acceptance facility. We accept
applications, along with required documents, and forward them to the
U.S. Department of State for processing. We do not issue passports.
Basic Requirements to Obtain a U.S. Passport or Passport Card
The passport application information
below is meant to be used as a guide and is not inclusive of all U.S.
Department of State requirements. For complete and more detailed
information regarding your passport application, acceptable proof of
U.S. Citizenship, Proof of Identity, etc. please visit the U.S.
Department of State website at
www.travel.state.gov .
Please note that all documents must
be original documents and must be relinquished at the time of applying.
Your Driver’s License, State Identification Card, or Official Military
Identification Card will be copied and returned to you at the time of
application.
All original documents required to be
submitted with your passport application will be returned via a separate
mailing from the U.S. Department of State. Your passport will come in
one mailing and the original documents will follow shortly after in a
separate mailing.

website.
2. Proof of U.S. Citizenship

Driver’s License (not temporary or learner’s permit) b. U.S.

4. One Photograph (see Department of
State website for photo requirements)
5. Everyone, including minor
children, must appear in person. Additional information pertaining to
applying for minors is noted below.
Applying for Minors
Under 16
The minor child and both parents
must appear, along with the following:
-
Evidence of the child’s
citizenship
-
Evidence that the adults are
the parents of the child
-
Valid personal ID for both
parents
A certified copy of the child’s
birth certificate is generally acceptable as evidence of citizenship
and parenthood. If the child has a previous passport, that
should be submitted too.
If one parent is unable to
appear, he/she must complete DS-3053, Statement of Consent, have it
notarized, and give it to the applying parent to submit with the
child’s application. The parent that is unable to appear must also
provide a copy of the front and back of their valid personal photo
id (i.e. driver's license).
16 and 17
If the minor is unable to present
photo ID with signature and date of birth, one parent must appear to
identify the child.
When a 16-17 year old is applying
without a parent, it is advisable that the parent write the check
for payment of fees.
Payment of Fees
(effective July 13, 2010)
Payment to the U.S. Department of
State must be made by check or money order. Credit card payments are not
accepted. Checks should be made payable to US Department of State for
passport book or passport card fees plus any expediting fee and return
postage fees if applicable. Check or money order should have applicant's
name on it and date of birth.
Payment to the City of Northville for
the execution fee may be made by cash or check. Credit card payments are
not accepted.
**All applicants
must pay a $25 execution fee when applying at a designated acceptance
facility. This fee is set by the U.S. Department of State and is
collected by the City of Northville as a designated facility and is the
same at all acceptance facilities.
U.S. Passport Book:
• $110 Passport Processing Fee (check
payable to the U.S. Department of State) – 16 years of age or older
(10-year passport). • $80 Passport Processing Fee (check payable to
the U.S. Department of State) – 15 years of age or younger (5-year
passport). • $25 Execution Fee for each application** (cash or check
payable to the City of Northville). • EXPEDITED PASSPORTS –
Additional $60 plus overnight postage both ways is suggested (contact
City Hall for postage rates).
U.S. Passport Card:
Valid for travel by land or sea
between U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean ONLY.
• $30 Passport Processing Fee (check
payable to the U.S. Department of State) – 16 years of age or older
(10-year passport card). • $15 Passport Processing Fee (check
payable to the U.S. Department of State) – 15 years of age or younger
(5-year passport card). • $25 Execution Fee for each application**
(cash check payable to the City of Northville). • EXPEDITED
PASSPORTS – Additional $60.00 plus overnight postage both ways is
suggested (contact City Hall for postage rates).
Processing Time & Other
Information
Expect to receive your passport in approximately 6-8 weeks.

service representative.
An application may be expedited
for an additional $60, which should be included in the check for
payment to the Department of State. Both new applications and
renewals may be expedited.
Renewals
If you have an expired passport,
you may be eligible to renew it by using form DS-82, Application for
US Passport by Mail. To be eligible, your most recent passport
must meet ALL of the following conditions:

You can submit it.
-
You were at least 16 years old
when it was issued.
-
It was issued less than 15
years ago.
-
It shows the same name you have
now, or you have had your name changed by marriage or court order
and can submit certified documentation which reflects the name
change.
The fee for a renewal is $110.
Renewals are completely handled by the applicant. You do not need to
appear at a passport acceptance facility.
If
you are not eligible to use the DS-82, you must apply in person and
use the DS-11.
