What do we do? As an Explorer, you can expect
to learn and train on several exciting firefighting topics:

turnout gear and SCBA
- Use of firefighting tools
- Building
construction
- Fire protection systems
- Search and rescue
- Water supply
- Fire streams
- Pump operations
- Ladders
- Ventilation
- Portable fire extinguishers
- Firefighting Foam
- Firefighter self-rescue and survival
- Pre-incident planning
- Mock Candidate Physical Ability Test
We also train on and practice
all aspects of pre-hospital medical care, such as:
- EMS operations
- Patient assessment
- Vital signs
- CPR
- Automated external
defibrillator use

- Patient movement and transport
- Basic medications
and drug use

In addition to the obvious Fire / EMS

These are only some of the topics we cover. Explorers
are taught by certified firefighters and EMTs who work in the field on a
daily basis. Other guest instructors are routinely brought in to cover
special topics. All activities are chosen to teach participants the
different aspects of the fire and emergency services. We aim to broaden
participants’ knowledge of the fire and emergency services. If they
choose to eventually enter the field as an adult, we hope they will
become better and safer responders as a result of this program.
