Photo by Liz Cezat. At its Sept. 21 meeting, the Planning Commission heard from Jim Long, who is part of the team that will be redeveloping 456 E. Cady, on its mixed-use building proposed for the former Foundry Flask site. The commissioners provided feedback on the preliminary site plan and voted to set a public hearing at the next available meeting to address the developer’s request for exemptions concerning special land use.

In an effort to finalize the Master Plan update of three subareas (S. Center, Cady St. and race track) and present the document to City Council this fall, the PC will hold a special session on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. on Zoom to discuss what is intended to be the final draft document. The public is invited.

Once the Planning Commission agrees on a final draft, it will be sent to City Council for distribution to neighboring communities, which will have 42 calendar days to comment. After that, a formal public hearing will be scheduled. After that, the Planning Commission could either vote to adopt the Master Plan Update as written or revise the update based on comments received.

It’s important that citizens, business owners and others invested in Northville’s future help crystalize the document as it nears completion. This will enable developers, who are ready to move on some large-scale projects, to have a “visionary plan” to guide them.
